New International® 9800i Debuts at Johannesburg International Motor Show
International Trucks Shows Off Refreshed 9800i with New Mid-roof Cab

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, (October 30, 2008) – A new, refreshed version of the International® 9800i, with a mid-roof cab, made its debut in front of commercial vehicle customers, industry experts and consumers at the Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) this week.

“The 9800i is a popular truck because of its reliability, low cost of ownership and all round performance. Standardizing the mid-roof will make the 9800i even more cost-efficient for our customers,” said Bob Jones, Chief Commercial Officer of Navistar International Trucks of Southern Africa.

Featured prominently at the International display, the updated, top-of-the-line 2009 International 9800i includes the new mid-roof cab that becomes standard mid-2009. The flat roof remains an option. The evolution of the 9800i cab has seen vast improvements, including increased leg room for the driver; air-assisted clutch; redesigned and vastly improved air conditioner system with added vents; new instrument clusters with ivory gauges which are easy to read in day or night; fully air-suspended driver and passenger seats; and dual lockable storage compartments within the cab. The 9800i mid-roof double sleeper cab ensures comfortable sleeping facilities for both drivers — a must after a long day on the road.

Another version of the 9800i on display is the 8x4 rigid chassis which is suitable for long-distance operation at maximum GCM providing customers with superb payload productivity.

“Our vehicles enjoy a strong acceptance in South Africa and we intend to grow our position in this market by continuing to grow our comprehensive line-up of reliable, cost-effective trucks,” said Tim Quinlan, regional vice president for Navistar in South Africa.

Also featured at the show is the increasingly popular International 7600 6x4 tractor fitted with a Cummins ISM 400 horsepower engine, Eaton Fuller auto shift transmission and a conventional extended cab with a sleeper bunk. Accompanying the 7600 is a 7400 6x4 rigid chassis complete with a TFM 12-cubic meter capacity tipping body. The 7400 6x4 chassis, which comes standard with an Allison fully-automatic transmission, is extremely versatile and suitable for on- and off-highway mixer, refuse compactor or tipper applications.
