Navistar’s International Trucks Bury the Competition in the Construction and Landscape Industry
TerraStar, DuraStar, PayStar and WorkStar Trucks Offer Product Breadth

WARRENVILLE, ILL. JUNE 7, 2011 — The 2011 construction and landscape season is here and Navistar’s International® trucks offers a refreshed line of medium-duty and severe class trucks to meet the evolving needs of our customers. The full line-up includes updates to the TerraStar® and WorkStar®.

“Our medium and severe-duty trucks all share the same long-lasting and hardworking design that’s made International an industry leader,” said Jim Hebe, Navistar's senior vice president, North American sales operations. “International’s medium-duty trucks are unmatched in the construction and landscape industries, and have been the market leader for the past 20 years.”

A strong performer in the medium-duty space, TerraStar has received more than 2,000 orders since its 2010 introduction and will be available in a 4x4 variant for customers with more severe commercial duty needs. Announced during the March 2011 National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) Work Truck Show, the TerraStar 4x4 will be available for orders later this year. Bolstering the best visibility in its class, with 38 percent better front-forward visibility than the leading competitor, the TerraStar also features the largest cab in its class and a 107-inch BBC (bumper to back-of-cab) length, 300 horsepower and 6.4-liter MaxxForce 7 V-8 engine, delivering 660 lb.-ft. torque.

“International’s construction and landscape customers demand products that have a combination of power and efficiency,” said Hebe. “We updated our medium-duty and sever trucks to meet these needs with increased functionality and effectiveness.”

The medium-duty DuraStar was features MaxxForce Advanced EGR, the only no-hassle, no-liquid urea solution for 2011 emissions. The best selling class 6/7 truck for the past 20 years, the DuraStar is also available in a hybrid variant and has proven capability to provide 30 to 40 percent fuel cost savings. Its Diamond Logic® electrical system offers programmable features including an optional remote start/ stop accommodation, and the DuraStar can also reduce noise pollution with an Electronic Power Take-Off (EPTO) feature which keeps the engine turned off during stationary work.

Due to the demand for increased visibility, WorkStar is adding a sloped hood option that provides best-in-class visibility and a completely refined interior with ergonomic enhancements such as hands-on steering wheel controls. Paired with the new hood design, a strong vocational “mega-bracket” design inspired from the International PayStar® 5900 Set-Back Axle (SBA) is included which supports the radiator and front-end. The WorkStar has the broadest range of powertrain combinations, up to 475 hp and 1,700 lb-ft of torque and offers an above-frame-rail-mounted radiator providing increased protection and integral front frame extensions.

A favorite of construction sites, International’s severe-duty truck, PayStar, features an extra-strong single-frame rail, cross-members and the strongest Huck-bolted chassis components. Sporting the toughest frame in the industry PayStar offers 120,000 psi rails, and up to 4.87 million RBMs for a maximum strength-to-weight ratio. It’s also available in one and two piece windshields to provide extended visibility and includes the largest aluminum cab in its class equipped with Whisper Cab ® sound insulation package.
